I’m so so sorry! I also was laid off of a full-time role over a year ago (have some other side income things). HIGHLY suggest checking looking into Neurodiversity in Tech Slack group as they post jobs and it’s nice to have discussions with folks WHO GET IT: https://join.slack.com/t/nd-in-tech/shared_invite/zt-32kk5tltf-F4liorIDUKkevVGeeL6l_w
Jesse, this timing seems crazy as my last two articles have been on layoff preparedness and layoff response (I went through one back in 2023).
Have a quick look and see if what I shared there from my experience helps. Also, feel free to DM me so I can help update and improve your CV (I've done this for hundreds of folks - it's not a service; just one person helping another). Also happy to jump on a call and chat emotions, keeping your ADHD in check with this disturbance, and career next steps. One of the callouts I have on my articles is to lean on others - this is my permission to lean on me for these things.
Sorry to hear about this Jesse ;( I'm sure you will pick up work in no time with that skillset. Just shows how important side hustles truly are in this economy... when you can just get laid off so easily. Meh 😒
Perfect, I just sent you a connection request on LinkedIn. I know how shitty this feels, and I'm sorry you have to go through it. I went through something similar, right before I moved to Uruguay two years ago. I am not super active on LinkedIn but I do have good connections there so hopefully it will help!
Sorry to hear that, Jesse, I've been riding out severance and dipping into savings after a layoff over a year ago and my effort to do my own thing. It's slow, and it'll probably get slower with income... unless you create an AI startup.
I literally created chaoscooperative.com as a community for people with ADHD with this whole thing in mind, having a cooperative where people can share skills, or make recommendations, or just talk directly to others with that brain type.
Hopefully you have a bit of runway with severance or a buyout, or something. My experience is that we can get buy on less than I realized... which made my ADHD less motivated to get aggressive. I think that's about to shift. >.<
Sincerely, if you want to talk ADHD from the laid off side, feel free to reach out.
Dismayed to hear this BUT if anyone was well-placed to be snapped up, it's you. Here's hoping the next opportunity turns out to be fascinating and fulfilling.
Hang in there, Jesse. I know it's feeling pretty grim right now, but I really do believe things happen for a reason. I'm sending awesome vibes your way! You got this!
I saved this post to share with some friends who had been laid off - looks like good job hunting resources, also check out CareerBuilder + Monster (I work there part time), and we have some good resources too.
I've lost so many jobs and opportunities, but it never gets easy. I can't imagine how difficult it is to cope with this when it occurs through no fault of your own :)
So sorry to hear this Jesse. I lost a big client last month and it hit me for six. I’ll keep you in mind for any dev work I might have. Cheers and take care, Bec
Sorry Jesse. When one door closes, another door opens. 🫶🏻💪🏻

Not a fan of coming across as promoting my writing in this moment, but also want to make checking my resources easier:

Thank you! 💙
I'll share this post, if you are on LinkedIn maybe you can post something there and I can share it there too? 🙏
Thanks! I'm probably going to write up something and share on social media (including LinkedIn) next week.

Sorry about this huge change. I hope you connect with a great opportunity really soon! I’ve shared it on Notes. Good luck!
Thank you!
How heartbreaking. You have helped so many ADHDers (myself included) that hopefully karma will kick in. Until then, sending warmth and hugs. 💜
Thanks so much!
